Liveprofessor 2 not useable on laptop with high PPI Displays

Postby Andreas_Franke » Fri Oct 20, 2017 10:45 am

Yesterday I have installed LP2 first time on my laptop (15.3" 4K Display) and recognized that LP2 shows up any plugin really to small. I took a screen shot. You can see LP2 with an open instance of FM8 and a standalone instance of FM8 side by side.

Hi
This is a known issue, but not really a LiveProfessor issue. Let me explain
On hi-dpi displays, on windows 10 everything is scaled 200% (or 150%).
When a program is launched it is asked if it is able to do this it self.
New applications are expected to say "yes" and then scale their UI to the windows setting.
If it says no (old apps) windows will just resize the window, creating a blury sort of, lo-res app.
Now, the problem is that liveprofessor has plugins, and many of them don't do this new scale thing, so when LP says yes to scaling, the plugins dont get scaled. Except, new plugins do. So it is a huge windows mess that I can't win.
Only solution is to go to display settings set "scale" to 100% and bring resolution down accordingly.
So on my surface pro it defaults to 150% and 2736 X 1824 I would then bring it down to 100% and resolution to 1920 or so.
Hope this clears it up

Hi Nicolai,
but why are the plugins scale correctly in my DAWs (Ableton Live, Reaper, Sonar) under the same conditions, but not in LP? I think what you are saying is just 21 (half the truth). ;-)

Hi
Well, that is because they don't scale their UI, and run in legacy mode, so the host uses the "old style" so that the old plugins show right. sooner or later they will face the same problem.
We are at a chicken / Egg moment with this, should the hosts wait for ALL 10.000 plugins to update their ui, or just follow the new windows way.
If you just lower the resolution of the monitor (and bring the scale down) the old plugins will look normal (and liveprorfessor will scale down like it should)
